So the whole interview thing took like a month or so, and I had 6 rounds in total. It started with a remote phone screen, then a remote case study presentation. After that, it moved in-person for a top grading round, a whiteboarding session, and a panel interview. Finally, they did reference checks. It was kinda long, but they kept me in the loop about what was next.
- Can you walk me through your resume and past experiences?

The interview process was unorganized and unprofessional. The interviewer canceled our 30-minute appointment last minute, and I had to reschedule. Then, the day before our rescheduled time, she asked me to speak with her in 20 minutes. The interview was shortened to 15 minutes due to her meeting. She didn't introduce herself and barely asked any questions, nor did she discuss the role or company. It felt rushed and uncaring. When I pointed out she hadn't asked much, she asked one final question about my biggest takeaway from my previous 4-year job, which felt vague. I asked what they were looking for in this position and was told the senior designer lacked ad tech experience, so they wanted a junior designer with extensive experience to help them. This seemed like a role reversal, as junior roles are for newcomers, not experienced individuals, especially more so than the senior. This felt like a red flag. I received a rejection email at 1:50 AM. I'm glad I didn't get the job, as the company seems to be growing fast and has an interesting platform, but some business practices appear suspect, and they need a better recruiter.
- Why were you interested in Pattern?
UX Designer Intern
There weren't that many behavioral questions. It was mostly basic questions about your understanding and passion for UX, plus a 15-20 minute portfolio review.
- What is UX?
- Can you explain UX to me as if I were an alien?
- Tell me about your portfolio.
