First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Patriot Software.
Video Editor
I interviewed for a Video Editor role recently. The company seemed pretty cool and innovative. I had a Zoom interview and also had to send in a video explaining my interest in the job. I didn't get an offer in the end, but it was a good experience overall. They communicated well, and I'd be open to applying again.
- Could you share what sparked your interest in this role?
- What video editing technologies have you been utilizing recently?
Web Designer
I had two phone interviews, each about 30-60 minutes. Then I came for a face-to-face interview, which involved a long drive. The HR person was nice. I did a computer-based IQ test, a math test, and a 'spot the differences' test. I think I did well on those, but didn't pass the interview. The two guys interviewing me were cold and seemed to have decided before I arrived. I felt uncomfortable. They didn't ask to see my portfolio but did ask me to tell them a joke. They didn't ask much about the actual job. As I was leaving, they said this is usually where people don't get another chance and smiled. I got an email before I got home saying they weren't offering me the job.
- Could you tell us an appropriate joke?
Product Manager
I applied for a Senior Payroll Product Manager role at Patriot Software and had a really bad experience. After they sent an email asking me to interview, the scheduling link was broken. I told the recruiter, and they said they'd fix it. But instead of fixing it, I got a generic rejection email the next day. It felt like they didn't have things organized and didn't respect my time. It takes effort to prepare for interviews, and getting mixed signals was frustrating. They should really look at how they communicate to make it better for future candidates.

Software Developer
First, I had a phone interview with some typical, standard interview questions. Then, I went in for a face-to-face interview with two senior developers. They mostly asked follow-up questions based on my phone interview answers. After that, I took some easy math and survey "tests." The last step was a panel interview with four developers. Three of them were great, but one was pretty arrogant and rude. He even asked me a question that the others didn't know the answer to and made some rude comments, but overall, it seemed like a great place to work.
- Can you write a function to determine if a number is a power of two?
