I spoke with a recruiting lead who seemed rude. She asked my salary expectations three times right away, even though pay transparency laws are in effect where I live. She wanted a general overview of my career, but then asked for details on the tech I used. Oddly, she didn't ask follow-up questions about my actual work. Instead, she focused on why I left all my past engineering jobs, even a layoff from 5 years ago during the pandemic. She ended the call saying she appreciated my time, but it felt insincere.

Started with a brief recruiter chat about my resume and career aspirations. Then, I had a quick and easy 60-minute technical interview. About 10 minutes after the technical, I was invited for an on-site interview day, which was pretty intense. It included a 10-minute presentation about myself and a past technical challenge I'd overcome. After that, there was lunch with some employees, followed by a 30-minute coding interview, a 30-minute systems design interview, a 30-minute algorithms/whiteboard problem, and finally a 30-minute behavioral interview. I felt good about most interviews, but I struggled with the whiteboard question.

I had a phone screen with the head of talent acquisition, which was pretty disappointing. The call felt one-sided and unprofessional. She kept asking about my background and experience but didn't share much about the role, team, or company culture. It seemed disorganized and showed little respect for my time or prep. It was hard to tell if the job was a good fit, and I ended the call with more questions than answers. If this is their usual process, the company should probably rethink how it's done, starting with their talent acquisition team.
