First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Pasco County Schools.
Recruiter
It was an easy process, and the questions were manageable. They could improve by clarifying job descriptions to be more accurate. I answered all the questions since they were basic. They made me role play, and I was able to perform all their requests.
- Do you have experience using digital design platforms?
Cheer Coach
The interview process included one meeting with staff and the athletic director where they asked a variety of questions. They also checked references and confirmed past experiences with cheer and tumbling instruction. You'll need to get CPR and First Aid certified and complete multiple training sessions each year. Since fundraising is part of the role, be ready to discuss your ideas on that.
- Can you discuss your experience, availability, and qualifications?
- What experience do you have in coaching?
- In what ways would you enhance or develop the cheer program?
Teacher
The process was fair, involving both written and spoken interviews. First, the District screens candidates, and then you apply to specific openings at individual school sites. Overall, it's an easy and fair process with veterans preference. I really recommend the District.
- Can you describe a time when you faced a specific situation and how you handled it?
- Tell me about a specific experience you had that relates to this scenario.
- What are some specific experiences you recall that would be relevant here?
Safety Guard
It was a panel interview with three interviewers, each asking different questions covering background and experience. This job requires over 10 years of prior police and/or military experience. I'd advise being confident and decisive. Keep in mind your purpose there. While a school safety guard might be framed as armed "security," you're there instead of police because (1) it was the cheapest way to meet the Marjory Stoneman-Douglas Act requirements given the limited state funding schools received, and (2) you're presenting yourself as having the necessary background, training, and experience for the professional security needed instead of police. If you truly have that background, you need to sell it.
- Can you talk about what armed security means in a school environment?
- What do you think your role would be?
- What would you do if a student attempted to grab your firearm?
