Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Partners in Performance.
Manager
I had 4 interviews that were each about an hour long. The first interview was with HR and was a screening. The next three were with a Principal, a Director, and the Head of North America. These were standard case interviews and also had a behavioral component.
- Tell me about operational improvement opportunities.
Manager
So I've dealt with some pretty rough companies, but PIP might be the worst. It's a pretty standard consulting interview setup though. Started with HR screening, then a bunch of case study interviews. Red flags started popping up during the first HR chat. The guy was super pompous and acted like they were MBB, which they totally aren't. The case interviews were something else. One manager I interviewed with was just awful – arrogant, unprofessional, rude, and aggressive. I almost walked out. To make matters worse, it was a virtual interview and his partner kept interrupting and looking over his shoulder. No clue why HR thought that was okay. And get this, he's apparently been promoted. Online research and talking to people in my network also didn't give me good vibes about their company culture. Apparently, they push Glassdoor reviews as a KPI. Trust me, there are way better, higher-paying consultancies out there. Avoid PIP.
- Can you tell me about your background and experience?
- Despite claiming to work on diverse cases, all case studies were heavily focused on mining and logistics.
- There were no behavioral questions, and my background wasn't discussed; it was purely case studies.
Manager
This was a pretty standard consulting interview process. It started with an HR/fit-check, then went into two rounds of case studies, with two cases in each round, and then a final partner interview. The people were nice and tried to be helpful, and the case studies were different depending on who interviewed you. My sense was they were trying to find someone who could bring a deeper level of analysis.
- What are your long-term career aspirations?
- Can you work through a case study focused on implementation?
- Can you work through a case study focused on profitability?
