Graduate Student
When you apply, you have to do an assessment centre first before recruiters can help you find a job, but they don’t make that clear. The day is pretty long and focuses on sales. If you pass, you get access to job search support, but passing doesn’t guarantee a job. I wouldn’t suggest it. The assessment centre has two group tasks and a presentation. When you get there, you introduce yourself and have to say which famous person you would be; make sure you have a good answer, as you’ll need it for your first task, which is about who to keep on a boat.
- You do a presentation on why sales and then they ask questions after.
- You give a presentation on why sales and then they will ask questions after.
Graduate Scheme
The interview process started with an assessment day. First, there was an introduction presentation about the company, followed by a brief self-introduction where I had to talk about my role model and my greatest non-academic achievement. Then, we had two group activities: one focused on teamwork assessment and the other had a definitive correct answer, meaning teams were evaluated based on their solutions. After the group activities, candidates were taken aside individually for one-on-one interviews with Pareto. Finally, I had to deliver a 3-minute pitch highlighting my motivations and skills for the company. All this information was provided beforehand. There was also an optional opportunity to practice the pitch over the phone with a Pareto employee, though their advice was geared more towards sales roles.
- Could you explain your motivations for seeking employment with this particular company?
- Can you elaborate on why you are interested in working for the company?
Graduate Scheme
After applying online, I had an informal telephone interview with a graduate recruitment manager. If they liked me, I moved to a formal interview. If successful there, I was invited to an assessment centre with about 20-30 other candidates for the same scheme. It felt daunting at first, but talking to others made it better. The assessment included two group activities and a 3-minute presentation. The group activities were standard, so I focused on showing my personality. The 3-minute presentation was tough, trying to convince them to pick me in such a short time, and I struggled to finish. After my presentation, I had an interview with my graduate account manager, which was nice to finally meet them. Shortly after, we were grouped and told if we had been successful. Luckily, I was chosen and am now waiting for a job interview through the agency.
- What makes you want a career in sales?
- What are your reasons for Pareto to choose you?
