First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Paperchase.
Sales Assistant
So, applying to Paperchase usually starts with sending in your application online. If they think you're a good fit, they'll probably give you a call or a video chat to talk about your past work and why you're interested in this specific job. If that goes well, you might get called in for an in-person interview. This part often has questions that check your skills and how you handle situations, and sometimes you might have to do a small task or look at a scenario related to what the job is all about.
- Do you have previous retail experience?
Sales Assistant
Got a call about a Christmas Temp position after applying for a different role before. The interview was after hours with about 5 other candidates. We filled out an availability form, picked our favorite item in the store and explained why. Then we grabbed a basket with an item, added another, and explained that choice (upselling/cross-selling). We then swapped baskets and kept adding items. Finally, we were paired up to pick items for an occasion like a christening, staying within a budget and connecting them to the loyalty card. It lasted about an hour. Got a call 5 days later with an offer.
- Tell me about your favorite item in the store.
- What do you like about your favorite item?
- If you had to pick an item and add another, how would you justify adding that second item?
Sales Assistant
I went to the store and chatted with the manager, who then asked me to come back for an interview the next day. The interview itself was pretty standard, mainly asking questions from a form. They asked about my previous work experience, why I'd be a good fit for the role, and my strengths and weaknesses. After that, the manager went over the job details, like the salary. He mentioned he had more interviews scheduled but would get back to me by the end of the week. When I didn't hear back, I gave the store a call. He then asked me to come in for an induction, which basically meant working on the shop floor for a few hours. By the end of that, he offered me the job.
- Can you identify who Paperchase's competition is?
- Could you describe your most recent job?
- What activities do you enjoy?
