First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Paper Source.
Shift Supervisor
I applied after a friend who worked at Paper Source referred me. My first interaction was a phone call with a recruiter, which went well. The next step was an in-person interview with the store manager. The store manager emailed me with very short notice, asking to meet on a Sunday, which didn't work for me. She was slow to respond about rescheduling, and I had to email her after waiting over a week to finally set up a new time. No one acknowledged my patience or the inconvenience. The interview itself was underwhelming. The day before the interview, I received another email asking me to bring a printed resume and a creative work sample. Upon arrival, the manager asked for my application, even though I had already submitted it to the recruiter and it hadn't been requested again. I was told someone would follow up after the interview, but no one did. Overall, it was a very long, disorganized, and disappointing experience. I was not impressed.
- Could you describe your handwriting?
- Are you interested in lettering?
Shift Supervisor
I first chatted with a recruiter who set up a phone screen. We talked for about an hour about the company, my background, the job, and what I see myself doing in the future. The recruiter then suggested I interview with the Store Manager. My first interview was at the store with the Store Manager. It was pretty laid-back and standard, except they asked for a sample of some creative projects I had done, which I had brought. A week later, I had a second interview with the Regional Manager at a location in downtown Chicago. This one was also pretty routine, but we dove deeper into my personal experiences and the company's mission and values. After that, they told me they'd be checking my references.
- What ways do you know for checking if associates are competent, and are you okay with doing them?
- How do you keep projects and responsibilities in balance?
- Have you ever been in charge of a department by yourself and taken responsibility for how it turned out?
Shift Supervisor
I submitted my resume for a shift supervisor position and got a call the next morning for an interview the day after. I was asked to bring creative samples for the manager. I got there early but waited 40 minutes for the store manager. The interview was on the sales floor during store hours, which was weird. I had a second interview with another manager in the back office, which was better. However, the lateness and slow follow-up felt unprofessional, and I lost interest despite being patient. I finally got a generic form letter a week late. It seemed disorganized and poorly managed.
