Greeter
I saw a help wanted sign in the mall window and applied. A few weeks later, they called, but I missed it. I called back the next day and scheduled an interview for the following day at 11 AM. I arrived a little late, about 5 minutes. When I told an employee I was there for my interview, the manager came out and said she forgot about it. It was pretty awkward, especially since it was my first interview. She asked me some basic questions from a form and wrote down my answers. After that, she just said that was it, and didn't mention anything about calling me back.
- Can you tell me about any experience you have?
Retail Associate
I arrived at 10am for my interview, but got there at 9:50. The manager met me at the front of the store and we sat down to start. She first asked about my availability and phone number. She was really friendly, and the other employees were nice too when I first came in. I gave the manager my resume, which included my availability. An employee then briefly left with a phone, maybe for a call, but came back. We then moved to a different spot because more people were arriving. She asked about my past work experience, not looking at my resume, and I mentioned I was a cashier for 2-3 years. I described my duties that are relevant to this job and said I was looking for a company with lots to do because I like a busy environment. She mentioned she could be tough on employees to make sure they do things correctly, to which I responded that it's good to have a manager who knows what they want. I also shared past experiences with customers to show my customer service skills. She summarized what I said, and we finished by confirming my phone number.
- What are your thoughts on customer service?
- What is your availability?
- Can you tell me about your previous work experience?
Sales Associate
I was called for an interview on the weekend. I arrived 20 minutes early, just in case. The interview started 15 minutes late because the manager had printer issues. Then, she interviewed me. She was surprised I didn't have retail experience, which made it clear she hadn't reviewed my application. Her English wasn't great, which was a bit surprising, but I'm used to that where I live. We talked for 20 minutes about my availability, college, current job, and strengths. She ended by saying she couldn't ask more questions due to my lack of retail experience and asked if I had any questions. She felt the interview went poorly, not because of me, but due to her English. She said she'd call by Monday if I got the job. I'm waiting now, but I'm not too hopeful because it felt unorganized and short.
- What is your availability?
- Tell me about your college experience.
- What about your current job?
Supervisor
It was just one interview round with people who are already working there. It was pretty easy and they called you back in a day or so to let you know if you got the job.
- Can you tell me about a challenging situation you faced and how you handled it?
