I had a chat with a recruiter and then an initial interview with the hiring manager for the team that had an opening. The whole experience was pretty good. They asked questions mostly to see how I approach problems, how I communicate, and what my past work experience is like.

The whole process was 3 steps: first, a 1hr interview with the Hiring Manager, then a 1.5hr Technical Interview, and finally another 1.5hr Technical round. It was all pretty organized, and I could pick times that worked for me. The first chat was good. I talked with the Hiring Manager, who's gonna be my boss, about my experience and what the team does. I also got to ask them questions. The second part was a technical interview with 2 devs. Weirdly, it started in Russian even though interviews were in English, and they didn't even ask. They just opened a coding sandbox with tasks. The tasks were ok, covering Event Loop, useEffect, Promises, async/await, Array methods, and basic graph traversal. We also chatted about code standards, TypeScript benefits, and spent a good chunk of time on unit testing stuff like coverage, the testing pyramid, and why tests are needed. Towards the end, they asked about my past project challenges and how I keep up with tech news, even asking for my fave YouTube channels, which felt kinda random. HR said there might be another technical round, maybe refactoring, but I got rejected after the first tech interview. Overall, it was organized and started well, but the technical part was a bummer. I expected more professionalism and technical depth. Also, HR asked for 3 references from my current company before an offer, which is new to me.

The interview process had 3 stages. First, an HR interview, which was really nice, polite and informative. Then, a Hiring manager interview - it was very intense but also polite. Finally, the technical interview with two Russian-speaking interviewers who insisted on conducting the interview in Russian, despite my lack of confidence. The questions were mostly tricky 'You Don't Know JS' type questions, with only one small React question relevant to everyday coding. The company provided feedback, but it felt unhelpful given the nature of the questions. The interviewers seemed to think they could evaluate my level based on these tricky JS questions. The recruiters were also rude during the interview, unwilling to discuss questions or provide feedback.
