Software Engineer
First there was a recruiter call, then I spoke with the hiring manager who told me about the company culture. After that I had a coding challenge to do on my own time, followed by a discussion about the project. Lastly, I had a whiteboard coding interview.
- How to resolve an n+1 query?
Software Support Developer
I applied online and had an initial chat with someone who sounded like a junior HR person. She didn't have a job description to share. Then there was a face-to-face meeting with some developers and another HR person. They were running late, which was stressful because I had to take a long lunch break from my current job. After that, I was given an online test to complete in my own time. The test seemed way too easy, like nothing I'd even seen on MS cert exams. I wasn't feeling great about it, but they invited me for an in-office programming test and another interview. I aced the test and was told I was doing better than others. A week later, they called to say they were hiring internally and asked if I'd be interested in a Software Developer position instead. I said yes and interviewed with two Development Managers. A week after that, they called again to let me know they didn't get approval to hire for that role.
- Did you find the questions during the interviews easy, except for the third-party online test?
- Would you say this was one of the easier jobs you've applied for in terms of question difficulty?
- Do you agree that they compensated for easy questions with a long interview process that might not lead to a job?
Senior Software Developer
Got contacted by a recruiter, had a quick phone call, and then a casual meet-up. They passed my resume along. Then, I had to do a tech test, which took me about 6 hours to complete and refine. I submitted a working solution with good unit tests, aiming for a straightforward implementation. Feedback was mixed: they liked the tests and code but found the implementation too simple, which was my intention! I adjusted it slightly after getting feedback but they decided not to proceed.
