Test Analyst
It was a 1-on-1 interview with the test manager, followed by a technical test. The technical test covered basic ISTQB concepts and some simple SQL queries. The interview itself was straightforward, focusing on testing techniques and my past experience.
- Describe your approach to requirement gathering.
- What methods do you use to ensure all requirements are covered?
- Given a scenario on the whiteboard by the test manager, how would you approach testing it?
Test Analyst
I was contacted by HR in China through my resume on jobstreet for their Singapore division, and we had an international phone call. The HR person was professional and clear about the job, even giving me interview tips. The interview was set up quickly with the Test Manager and Test Lead. They asked questions about the role, my past testing work, my work ethic, and personality. I got an offer the next day and had two days to decide. The Singapore HR answered my questions quickly. I declined the offer, and the HQ HR contacted me to understand why and see if they could address my concerns. The Test Manager and HR seemed sincere throughout. This job is a good starting point for fresh graduates, though not for everyone. It's reasonable to expect IT grads to know testing basics, automated testing concepts and usage, and how testing works with methodologies like Agile and TDD, as this is taught in university.
- Tell me about your experience with testing methodologies.
- Can you elaborate on your work experience in testing?
- What is your understanding of software testing?
Test Analyst
First, HR called to see if there was mutual interest. Then, within two days, I was interviewed by the Test Manager. He asked questions about testing and expected perfect answers, even though he should have known my background from my resume. The interview only lasted 20 minutes, which felt like a waste of time.
- Can you describe the testing flow?
