Account Manager
The interview process was pretty simple. Started with a recruiter call, then an in-person meeting with the GM. After that, I had a phone call with the manager, followed by another in-person meeting with both the GM and manager. After the first in-person, they sent over an Intelligence analysis questionnaire that took about 30 minutes to complete.
- Can you tell me about the most challenging thing you have ever done?
Technical Account Manager
I had a 45-minute 1:1 with the hiring manager who described the TAM role at POA and the IT Sales Engineer role. I was also asked to complete a personality assessment on the spot, which involved a lot of handwritten essays/short answers and took another 45 minutes, and I agreed to a background check. The interview went well, and I was told I'd meet upper management soon. After a week, I followed up via email. Two weeks later, I called and left a voicemail. I sent another email and made another phone call. I even reached out to a mutual contact on LinkedIn to inquire about the delay, trying to be persistent without being overbearing. Over 40 days later, I received an email stating they were pursuing other candidates, which felt impersonal and made me reconsider wanting to work there. My requests for feedback and clarification went unanswered.
- Could you describe what you are seeking in this position?
- Between the TAM and IT Sales Engineer roles, which do you believe aligns better with your abilities?
- Can you provide an example of how you navigate challenging circumstances?
Account Manager
Applied online and then a recruiter called me to ask some quick questions like where I grew up, if I was in sports in college, and what I want out of life. Then I had a 1 on 1 with the recruiter in the company office. They asked about my time in student and sport organizations, what I want out of life, where I see myself in 10 years, what I'll do with the money I make, what I don't like about manager treatment, what I do in my free time, what I do with my friends, and who a mentor was for me. Then the recruiter gave me a personality test. No drug test. After that, I interviewed with a manager who repeated many of the same questions but also asked if I was in this for the long run and about POA. They asked how they know I'll persist despite rejection and not switch jobs, why they should pick me over others, what I know about POA, why I chose sales, and how I heard about the job. If the manager approved, I got scheduled for a 1-day shadow and a final interview. I rode with a rep to see the job done and they asked some of the same questions as the recruiter. Finally, a branch manager interview asking why I want a sales job, to tell them about myself, why I want this job and not something easier, why I chose POA over other companies, and if I'm in it for the long run. - Why are you interested in this particular role instead of a less demanding one, and what specifically drew you to our company, POA, compared to other potential employers? Additionally, are you committed to a long-term career here?
- Why did you choose sales as a career path?
- How did you learn about this job opening?
