Product Operations Manager
My previous experience with Oscar wasn't great, but I gave them another shot. The people I spoke with were nice, but the process itself didn't really improve. It started with a recruiter screening, which went fine. Then, I was asked to do a case study and presentation, which I thought went well and that I'd be a strong candidate. The problem was that while I was waiting for feedback, they'd already hired someone else and didn't bother to tell me, even after three conversations. It felt really unnecessary and rude to leave me hanging. I finally got some feedback and learned they'd made an offer to another candidate. I'm glad I at least got an update, but they should really let candidates know if an offer has been extended or just send a rejection. I don't think I'll apply here again.
- Tell me about your current location, as part of the standard screening.
- Please conduct a case study and walkthrough of improvements you would make to our processes.
Operations Manager
It was a 30-minute screen with the recruiter, followed by a 30-minute chat with the hiring manager. Then, there were three more hours of virtual interviews with four other team members. The first person I talked to in the final round was kind of distracted and I even made a joke about my appearance to test his attention, but he said he wasn't looking at me. Honestly, 30 minutes for a conversation shouldn't be a huge deal. He didn't really listen to me, which put me off for the next three interviews. They gave us case studies with hardly any background info and 30 minutes wasn't enough time to introduce ourselves and discuss them. If you don't meet all their requirements, I wouldn't get your hopes up. I made it to the last round and then got an automated email saying they chose someone who was a 'better fit'.
- Given a case study regarding utilization management, what would be your approach?
Operations Manager
The whole thing took about 2-3 weeks from applying online. A recruiter emailed me pretty fast after applying to set up a 30-min phone chat. Then, I had another 30-min call with the hiring manager, which was mostly behavioral stuff. The last part was a panel interview, which was actually 4 separate sessions via Google Meet: one technical, one case study, one with a senior manager, and one with a director. The recruiting team was pretty quick to respond. Overall, it was a good experience. Make sure you can talk about your past successes and explain the unique skills you'd bring to Oscar. You'll be fine.
- Could you describe a project you've managed from start to finish?
- Can you share your experience with improving business processes?
- Regarding operations technical interviews, what are the fundamental SQL concepts, including the various types of join statements?
