First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Oscar Health.
Data Scientist
The interview at Oscar is long and tedious. It starts with a recruiter phone screen, followed by a hiring manager phone screen. Then, there are five additional interview rounds with different people covering various topics. It became apparent at some point that the role's requirements didn't align with my background, but I had to proceed with the scheduled interviews. Considering the total hours invested, it felt like a waste of time knowing I likely wouldn't be hired.
- Can you explain what a window function is?
- Could you differentiate between the HAVING and WHERE clauses?
Data Scientist
The interview process involved a few rounds of interviews. It included a take-home assignment and a virtual onsite interview as the final stage. Generally, the process was clear and expectations were communicated effectively. However, the recruiter missed their follow-up timeframe, and I had to reach out to find out the final decision.
- Can you walk me through your take-home assignment?
- We had a live coding exercise.
- There was a debate-style segment where you were asked a challenging non-quantitative question and needed to take a position and justify it.
Data Scientist
The interview process started with a recruiter call, then a chat with the hiring manager. After that, there was a take-home DS case study, which they said should take about 4 hours but actually took longer. Then came five interviews, which could be done in any order: a case study discussion, a coding interview, a collaboration interview, a general "discussion" interview, and a leadership interview. The interviewers were nice, and overall the process was pretty well-run, although it was long. I'm not a fan of long take-homes, and this one was lengthy. On a sour note, the recruiter went silent once they decided against an offer, never responding to my follow-up emails.
- Can you share an instance where you collaborated with people from different teams and had to persuade them to accept an idea they were initially hesitant about?
