Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Oscar Health.

The application process was the least respectful of candidates’ time and had the worst responsiveness/communication I’ve experienced. After a standard screening interview and a first manager interview, they took over a week to follow up to schedule a final interview. This final interview is actually 2.5 hours of separate interviews, making the total time commitment 4 hours across multiple days that I had to take off from my current job. On top of that, the questions throughout the process were very negatively tilted, focusing on times I struggled or had difficulty with tasks. There was very little opportunity to discuss situations where I excelled or learned quickly. It seemed like they were looking for candidates who routinely struggle at their job and want to hear how they overcome it. I definitely DO NOT recommend wasting your time here unless you enjoy being treated poorly by an arrogant hiring team.

I'd like to start by saying that most of the interviewers and processes were great. They actively ask for feedback and do a great job of communicating the role. The one issue that turned me away from Oscar Health entirely was an interaction with one of my panel reviewers. I'd like to be fully transparent and say that despite my preparations, I basically flopped on a segment since I was nervous, and can understand why I had been declined, but instead of de-escalating the situation I had obviously been uncomfortable in my interviewer took every opportunity to just sigh and make remarks. Even going as far as to ignore my questions. The other interviewers were great to communicate with, and I have nothing but positive feedback for them, but just one person discouraged me from looking into joining the organization. Even if I an offer had been made, I would hesitate to accept it.
- Can you describe a time you faced challenges working with teammates?

The whole interview process wrapped up in about two weeks, starting from the first call to the last interview. First, there was a phone screen with the HR recruiter, which was pretty helpful in understanding the job details. Then, the second round involved technical questions and a live coding session. After that, I had an interview with the hiring manager for the third round. The final round was a panel where I had 30-minute interviews back-to-back, and one of those included a case study analysis.
