First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Orlando Magic.
Community Engagement Associate
The teams at Amway and the Orlando Magic were great throughout the interview process - straightforward, respectful, and efficient. They focused on what skills I could bring to the team, how I deal with large crowds, and how I manage busy workloads. I really enjoyed the whole experience and was hired within two weeks.
- Can you describe how you would manage a situation involving fan conflict?
Graduate Associate
After initial contact with HR via phone or email, there were 2 interview rounds. The first round was with the manager, and the second round was with the team. The interviewers were all very nice and made me feel comfortable.
- Could you introduce yourself and explain your interest in this role?
- What are your strengths and weaknesses?
- Can you describe your previous experiences?
Talent Acquisition
After some back and forth via email with a coordinator, I had an in-person meeting with the VP of HR that went for over 30 minutes. I thought I was moving on to the next stage, but then radio silence. I sent multiple follow-up emails with no response, not even a rejection. It's surprising to see such unprofessional inaction from someone at that level, especially in HR. But I guess in today's world, maybe it shouldn't be. Companies should remember that candidates have long memories and word of bad experiences spreads. It would be better if hiring managers and companies treated candidates more like valued customers than disposable assets.
- Could you start by telling me about yourself?
- What positive attributes would your boss identify in you?
- What aspects would your boss mention as areas for your improvement?
Executive Assistant
I applied online and a recruiter from the Orlando Magic reached out. She misled me about the position being new to get my salary expectations, but it was within range so I let it slide. The interview was straightforward and she was pleasant. However, her questioning style felt manipulative, as if she wanted specific answers. She mentioned filtering candidates herself before presenting them to the hiring manager. Two days later, I was informed I didn't proceed to the next round. Despite being highly qualified and a veteran, I suspect they aren't veteran-friendly, as I expected at least a second interview. I felt she didn't represent me well and didn't want me to advance.
- The questions were phrased manipulatively.
