Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Orchard Supply Hardware.
Sales Associate
The interview process was very straight forward and included questions regarding experience in sales, experience in other fields such as construction, etc. that transfer and relate to the job duties of an Orchard Sales Associate. Questions designed to elicit responses to gauge how well the interviewee would interact with customers as far as friendliness, openness, being able to connect with the customer. Questions regarding life experience, life/work balance, as well as what hours/days of availability the interviewee can work.
- How would you handle a disagreement with a fellow employee.
Sales Associate
I spoke with the department head and the assistant store manager, each in a separate conversation. The department head's chat was quick, about 6 or 7 minutes. Then, I had a longer talk with the assistant store manager, around 25 to 30 minutes. Both chats felt pretty casual and really friendly. They were great at answering all my questions with good details. It was a laid-back interview, and they both really made the company and the job sound fantastic. I was seriously impressed by the company, the folks I met, and even the other employees I saw around. This is definitely a place I'd love to work. They are super focused on making sure customers are happy with their shopping experience. Customer relationships are obviously top priority here, and it's obvious! It's just a really welcoming and impressive company. Customers want to come back, and employees seem to love working there!
- Could you share an instance where you went above and beyond to "wow" a customer, providing service that exceeded their expectations?
- What action would you take if you observed a colleague performing an illegal act?
Sales Associate
The interview process was very short and not well-thought-out, structured, or developed. It's mostly about getting new bodies in to deal with employee churn and burnout rate for rank-and-file Sales Associates, Sales Leads, and Department Heads.
- Do you have ANY previous retail experience?
