Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Orbis Investments.
Analyst
The interview process involved some strange and personal questions. While the brainteasers and the fit portion made sense, some of the interviewer's questions were definitely out of line. However, it seems like it could be a hit or miss experience, as I've heard from other employees in the firm that they were very friendly.
- Were your parents able to cover your tuition costs?
Summer Analyst
The interview lasted over an hour and had a mix of behavioral, motivational, and technical questions. I had to analyze a historical stock chart for National Pacific and was given a few minutes to prepare. There were also some brain teasers to check logical thinking.
- Can you figure out how to get exactly 4 litres using only 3-litre and 5-litre jars?
Analyst
Had a one-on-one with a mid-level equity analyst. They reviewed my CV, and we talked about why I'm interested in this field and my professional motivations. We also discussed the interviewer's background and the industry. There were some brain teaser questions, plus questions on investments, competition, and other jobs I've applied to. The whole thing lasted about 45-60 minutes. Before that, there was a screening test which was a behavioral personality test.
- What's driving your interest in equity research?
