First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Orano.
Engineer
The whole process took about a month. It started with a quick HR phone call. They asked me what I understood about the role, my ambitions, what I was looking for, why I was leaving my current job, and why Orano. Then there was an English and psychometric test online, which was timed so it's best to do it in a quiet place. After that, another HR person called to go over the test results and asked about my soft skills – like following procedures, teamwork, autonomy, and how I handle provocation. Then I had an interview with the manager where we discussed technical aspects of the job, my accomplishments, and upcoming projects, including how I'd approach them. Finally, a sort of interview with the HR Director to discuss the job offer and benefits at Orano.
- Have you ever led a specific project and how did you get your colleagues to agree with your approach?
Mechanical Design Engineer
So, I had this interview process with Orano Projet. It started pretty well. First, an hour with the HR manager, a nice chat, some general questions about my background and a few technical ones. Then, an hour and a half with the technical managers, really constructive, asked some specific technical questions and we really dug into the role. After that, another hour with the same technical managers where I had to do a practical exercise, looking at a mechanical system plan, explaining and analyzing it. Everything went great, and I was getting positive feedback. A few days later, the HR manager even called to say things were looking good: background check cleared, approvals obtained, and they had my admin docs. But then, out of the blue, they told me it wasn't going forward, no clear reason given. It's really disappointing, especially since I'd turned down other offers based on their initial positive signals. The interviews themselves were well-structured and interesting, and the technical discussions were professional. But the mixed messages and the final decision without any explanation, and after all the time I put in, it just feels disrespectful.
- Could you elaborate on your academic and professional history?
- Regarding your internship at ....., what exactly did it entail, and what were your main learnings?
- What prompted your decision to apply to Orano?
Marketing Assistant
It was really tough, I studied for weeks and still blanked during the interview, which has literally never happened to me in my 10 years of working. They mentioned no nuclear energy knowledge was needed, but I researched it anyway and spent ages prepping. The questions were so specific, you definitely needed more than a basic understanding. That's okay, but they should put that in the job ad. The interviewer was great though, really nice and supportive. It seems like a good place to work, you just need that specialized knowledge to get in.
- Can you tell us about your knowledge of nuclear energy in the UK?
Maintenance Technician
The job involves preventive and corrective maintenance for lifting and ventilation equipment, working within nuclear facilities. Tasks include preventive and corrective maintenance (mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, automation) on lifting equipment (cranes, hoists, monorails), forklifts (electric and thermal), and motorized doors/gates. You'll need to make accurate diagnoses, suggest solutions and improvements, help renovate and re-qualify equipment, assist with regulatory inspections and address any issues found, participate in new construction work, work in a team in nuclear facilities, and write intervention reports.
- Can you describe Orano's business?
- Could you walk me through your career history?
- What are your key skills and responsibilities in this role?
