After submitting your application, there's a phone interview, then an interview with the chiefs. After that, they do a background check, a polygraph, and medical/physical and drug screenings. The whole thing takes about 3-4 months from start to finish. It's a really easy and straightforward process. They also ask for small things like your driving license and driving record from the past 5 to 10 years.

Behavioral Presentation

The interview included a lot of questions about how to be upfront with local folks but also make the government look good, without pointing fingers at whoever made the policy. They want to know how you'd handle tough spots and spin them positively or make them seem easily fixable.

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • In a situation where the governor made a poor policy choice, what's your approach to addressing an unhappy citizen without assigning blame to the decision-maker?
  • How would you respond to a disgruntled citizen concerning a governor's bad policy decision, without shifting blame to the decision maker?

Behavioral Technical

So I had two interviews for the Official Records Specialist position with the Orange County Comptroller. First one was virtual, then the second one was in-person. There were the same 5 interviewers for both, all from management, including the supervisor and coordinator. Each interview lasted about 30-45 minutes. The virtual one wasn't too hard, but the in-person one really dug into my motivations and how much I knew about their department. They were good about letting me ask questions and answered everything thoroughly.

Behavioral Technical

The whole process felt off from the start, with limited options for the interview time. The welcome was cold, and even though I felt my answers were strong, the interviewers seemed disconnected. Shortly after, I got an email saying I didn't get the job, which was strange because we had previously agreed I understood the program and was a good fit. It felt like they had someone else lined up, maybe an internal person or even a connection. Just felt like a waste of time.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • Can you describe your experience working within the Building department and with permitting processes?
