Quality Engineer
I applied for the Quality Engineer position through the Oracle Careers website. Initially, a recruiter from Oracle contacted me, asking basic Unix questions like how to list files, change file modes, and check running processes before forwarding my application to the hiring manager. A couple of days later, I received an invitation for a 1-hour phone interview with the hiring manager. This interview covered my interest in the role, fundamental Unix commands, and testing fundamentals. She seemed satisfied and mentioned she would arrange an interview with one of the engineers. Two days after that, we scheduled a technical interview with an engineer. He inquired about testing methodologies, specifically black box and white box testing, and then presented a case study where I had to identify test cases, coming up with about ten. He seemed impressed and indicated a potential onsite interview. However, the next step was a take-home programming assignment. The hiring manager emailed me about sending the assignment when I was ready, expecting it back within 4 hours. I set a date, and she sent the assignment, which involved writing a C program for a command-line utility to copy files to a destination directory with specific error handling and directory creation logic. I hadn't used functions like fstat or mkdir before, so it took me longer than 4 hours. I submitted an initial version with basic features implemented and completed the rest a couple of hours later. Unfortunately, I didn't receive a callback, which I suspect was due to my code. I spent about 5-8 hours on this assignment, including setting up VMware and Ubuntu on my laptop. Despite enjoying the process and the people I interacted with, I did not receive an offer. I'm documenting this experience as I always check Glassdoor before interviews.
- How can you verify the correctness of your test script?
- Could you explain Black box testing, White box testing, Stress testing, and Performance testing? Also, what distinguishes stress testing from performance testing?
Software Engineer
Hello everyone, so this was my interview experience with oracle. First there was a coding round with only MCQ's, subjects ranging from data structures, algorithms, operating system, DBMS. Although questions were not difficult, but they required a deep understanding of subjects. Then 5 were selected for the second round, unfortunately I couldn't qualify for further rounds. I know you might feel, then why the hell am I even writing this on glassdoor, but you have to learn from something from every bad experience that is faced by interviewees. In my case I will be studying those topics thoroughly now.
- Could you tell me about your projects?
Master Thesis Student
The interview process included questions about background and past experiences, technical coding exercises, an explanation of the team's and company's goals, technical questions about your most familiar programming language, and technical questions about specific details of the team's work.
- Java-related questions
- Coding exercises
- Past experiences
