Senior Recruiter
I had a telephone interview which was a really nice experience, they kept me updated at every step. The face-to-face interview though was awful. The director seemed to dislike me from the start and tried to intimidate me by making faces while aggressively asking questions. She seemed to assume I was misogynistic and kept bringing up feminism, trying to dominate the conversation, almost as if she needed to be in total control. I basically gave up halfway through. I'm a brown guy from London and it was obvious that's all she saw, plus any stereotypes she could think of. I wouldn't have taken the job even if they'd offered it.

The interview process overall was a negative experience. During the assessment centre, the interviewers in the 1-1 interview asked inappropriate questions about my personal life, making both of us uncomfortable. We were also asked to identify candidates who shouldn't be hired from the group, which clearly made some people uneasy. A small detail, but they didn't provide lunch, which felt a bit cheap considering we were students and travel wasn't reimbursed for the assessment day. When I inquired about the base salary, they seemed unsure and gave an estimated figure that significantly differed from the advertised amount. A positive note was the CEO's opening presentation about the company; she was engaging and enthusiastic, but unfortunately, the rest of the team didn't seem as motivated.
- What drives you? (e.g., financial incentives)
- Can you tell me about your siblings, their careers, and your relationship with them?
Recruiter
It was intense! I arrived at 10am for what was supposed to be a '30 minute informal chat'. I ended up staying until 4pm, having interviewed with the internal recruiter, two principal consultants, and the director. They ended up making me an offer, so it was a success. Be ready for a tough interview. They have a lot of staff turnover in recruitment, so they really need to confirm you can handle the job's demands.
- Who was your vote in the last election?
- Given that, do you believe criminals should be released?
