Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Optym.
Intern
It started with a phone call, then I had two tests for the second round. The last round was onsite where I interviewed with multiple people from the company. The tests covered algorithms, programming, probability, and operations research.
- Could you write pseudo-codes for some algorithms?
- Explain searching algorithms.
- Describe sorting algorithms.
Intern
I applied at the career fair and then had an interview on campus. It was a technical interview, with questions about logic, programming, data structures, and operations research. For most questions, they weren't looking for the most obvious answer, but the most efficient one (least number of steps). It's important to know about algorithm complexity.
- Could you explain what a spanning tree is?
Intern
The interview process was tough. Mostly questions about data structures and algorithms were asked. A high GPA helps for a position in this company. They also asked some database management questions. You might be given some programming problems, maybe practice some from any programming contest website. It might help to review optimization algorithms like shortest path, linear programming.
- What algorithms have you studied?
