First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Opportune.
Investment Banking Intern
They asked me about my short-term and long-term goals and several behavioral questions, and also asked me about my hobbies. I remember they also went over my résumé. They also asked me why I’m interested in this position and what do I know about investment banking.
- Why are you interested in this position?
- What do you know about investment banking?
Consultant
It was a smooth interview process, with good communication from the company and a nice, calm interview setting. They asked me questions that were relevant to the role and seemed genuinely interested in learning about me as a person, not just as a potential hire.

Investment Analyst
After a coffee chat, I had an in-person interview. It was just with directors, no other interviews. The interview focused on behavioral questions with a bit of technical. It was mostly about oil and gas but touched on some diversification. The team was really helpful and nice to talk to, pretty casual overall.

Corporate Finance Consultant
The interview process had 2 rounds. The first was an on-campus event with a dinner. The second was a super day in Houston, Texas, which lasted from noon to 10 PM. This felt like a waste of time because it seemed like they had already chosen their candidates. The company culture seems like a fraternity, and if you're a "guys guy" you'll fit in well. The interviews were not difficult, more like "conversations," but it's important to know everything on your resume. I was the only one among my peers asked about the last line of my resume, possibly because I couldn't keep up with the "frat-like" conversations as long as they could.
- What is your motivation for wanting to work at this company?
- Could you tell me what you know about our company?
