Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at OpenLink Financial.
Senior Software Engineer
A head hunter put my resume forward. Then I had a written test with mostly C/C++ questions. It included a strlen implementation, a data structures question, and a code debugging question. After that, I interviewed with the hiring managers and some team members.
- Can you implement strlen?
- Could you answer a question about basic data structures?
- Can you find errors in code?
Software Developer
The recruiter was super responsive and active, but the potential manager who interviewed me was really condescending and intimidating. They kept cutting me off mid-sentence to ask different questions, grilling me about every little detail of my past work and demanding proof. The whole vibe was so off that I knew within 30 minutes I didn't want to join the company.
- Can you explain which parts of the project were developed using Java and C++?
Software Developer
The HR person was helpful and went over the interview steps. I had to fill out a candidate proficiency table, rating myself from 1-10 in areas like Language, Build tools, Debugging tools, OS, GUI, IDEs, and Database, based on professional experience or academic learning. Then I took a C, C++, and SQL test, with most questions (90%+) on C and a few on SQL. After that, I reviewed the answers with a senior staff member, then spoke with the hiring manager. The hiring manager seemed practical and open. He's a technical manager, but I've heard the company is growing fast but is a bit chaotic across departments. Good luck!
- Create C structures for Person and Family (with multiple children) and a function to save family data, including children, to disk.
- Implement C functions to allocate and free memory for a 2D matrix using malloc() and free().
