& Process

It was a pretty standard process, but it took a long time. I got to the final rounds, which were supposed to be 6 interviews over two days. Everything was going well. But then, the day before my interview, the recruiter asked to reschedule everything because the hiring manager was out of office. The day after the interviews were supposed to happen, the hiring manager emailed to say they had closed the position. This was really frustrating and felt like a red flag to me. I'm not sure why it was all canceled so last minute, and now I'm wondering if the hiring manager was actually out of office or if that was just an excuse because they decided to close the position.

This company's hiring timeline was quicker than usual for a tech firm. The hiring manager and design lead kept me in the loop well. I applied online and heard back from the design lead in under an hour. The next day, we discussed my career goals and past design work. The week after, I had an hour-long meeting with a design manager where I presented a case study and fielded questions. I got some helpful feedback on my presentation at the end, which was great. The final onsite took a few hours and included a group interview with a case study presentation, lunch with the team, a whiteboarding session, and a final 1:1 with the design lead. The whiteboarding exercise was the toughest part for me, as it required creative problem-solving with minimal information, but I did enjoy the challenge.

First up was a 30min video chat with the Head of Design. Then, I had a 45min video call where I presented a case study. After that, it was a 4-hour in-person session. The first hour was for the presentation, followed by lunch. The third hour involved a design challenge, and the last hour was for behavioral questions and then an open Q&A. It was a great team and a fair process overall.
