Technical Other

It was the worst candidate experience. Started with cold outreach from a senior team member. Then a multi-hour take-home assignment that I passed with no feedback. Then an on-site super day with 5 interviews where I liked the team. Days later, the recruiter finally scheduled a call for 7pm while I was on vacation, and then pushed it to 8:30pm. The recruiter said the team liked me but wanted to do several weeks of trial contract work before a full offer, which was never mentioned before. I said I wouldn't do trial work without knowing the compensation. The recruiter quoted a package 20-25% lower than market, but hyped up the stock. I said salary would have to be commensurate. The recruiter then said they could pay what I expected and asked me to come back the next day for 2 more hours of interviews, including a technical interview. Days passed again, no response to emails. An email at 1:25 asked if I could talk before 2, I said yes, but they called at 2:15 to say they weren't ready to give a final decision due to Q3 headcount and CEO candidate references, and asked to stay in touch. I declined. It was a take-home, 2 on-sites with 7 interviews, late communication, and no real job offer in the end. The actual team seemed competent, but the recruitment process was frustrating and deceptive with smokescreens and lowballing.

Behavioral

I was emailed about a phone interview and asked for my availability. I responded and got an email confirming the date and time. The interview started on time. The questions were simple, but I didn't answer them well because I was nervous and it's been a while since I've interviewed. I love this company and its value proposition, and I understand the job. I just couldn't articulate my answers. The interviewer was very kind, though. I feel like I put her through a catastrophe during the phone screen and I understand why she didn't move me to a second interview. If I had been more relaxed and focused, I'm sure I would have progressed. I just bombed it. I'm going through a complicated divorce, was up all night with urgent issues, and my desire to work for this company made me lose my composure. I understand why she didn't move me forward based on my performance. So, I'm giving it a positive experience even though I messed up. With different circumstances, I could have nailed it – just bad timing. In hindsight, I should have just said I was putting my job search on hold, but I accepted this interview because it's a great fit for my skills. This company is going places, and I'd interview again if the chance arose after my personal issues are sorted.

Case Behavioral

The interview process spanned three days. Day one involved a single two-hour discussion with the hiring manager. On day two, there were six 30-minute case-style interviews with various individuals, including one that focused on cultural fit. Subsequently, I had another meeting with the leader of the Business Operations organization at that time.
