Software Development Manager
It was a 3 round interview process. The first round was with senior software developers, where I got technical questions about networks, programming techniques, and security. No code was written, but I did some whiteboard drawing. The second and third rounds were with senior managers from the head office, and focused on management skills in different typical situations. Overall, it wasn't a hard interview.
- How would you estimate the time needed for a project or task?
- Can you tell me about a time you had to lay people off?
Software Engineer
A recruiter reached out on LinkedIn about a Software Engineer role with a base of 150k, plus bonus and stocks, and remote work. The first round was a 45-minute technical interview with two Leetcode questions (medium, easy-medium difficulty). The final round was a virtual onsite, which included one Leetcode round with two problems, one Leetcode + System Design round, and another System Design round. I received an offer from another company on the day of the final round and asked for a quick decision. They extended a verbal offer two to three days later. On Thursday, HR sent links for background check and referral requests, which I completed that night. On Friday morning, the recruiter confirmed the offer was final, pending CEO approval. The CEO was out that day, so I was told to wait until Monday. Saturday morning, the recruiter said everything was final, so I rejected the other offer. To my shock, on Monday morning, the recruiter rescinded the offer, citing no specific reason and refusing to let me speak with the hiring manager. They stopped responding to my emails, leaving me in a difficult situation as I had already declined another job and was facing potential layoffs at my current company due to decreased performance. This entire experience was extremely unprofessional and disappointing, especially given my H1b visa status and the challenges of job loss without warning.

Recruiter
I had a good first phone chat with the HR Manager, and then she had her assistant schedule an in-person interview. They asked about my availability, and I told them since I'm currently employed. The times I wanted weren't free, so I made changes to fit their schedule because they want to move fast with this hiring process - no big deal. The in-person interview was with the HR Manager, and then there was another interview with the Recruiter/Admin and the Benefits Manager. It all seemed to go well, and at the end, they gave me a tour and mentioned they had other candidates to see, but they would let me know. I sent thank you emails, and then... crickets. As a recruiter myself, I know that providing feedback, good or bad, is just the professional thing to do in our field. I think they didn't handle this part well, and I hope they improve on this going forward.
- Can you elaborate on your past experience?
Sales Representative
I met with two women at a Regus office in Sacramento for this interview. One was a recruiter, and the other was likely the manager. We talked about my resume, my past experience, and what my career goals are. They then explained that the job involves going door-to-door to sell business phone services. The base pay is around $15/hour, with additional commission opportunities. They were a bit vague about the typical earnings for a salesperson, resorting to the usual 'our top performer makes...' type of statement.
- Are you able to make visits to 20 different businesses each day?
