First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Ontario Power Generation.
Engineer
The interview was on my campus. I got there 15 minutes early, but they were ahead of schedule and asked for me a few minutes ago. When they heard I just got there, they gave me a bit of time to chill. I talked to two people, one seemed like a senior engineer at the plant and the other was from HR. They took turns asking me questions and wrote down my answers. All the questions were behavioral. I think it went okay, but could've been better since I was unsure about 3 questions and really struggled with them even after thinking. They were nice and helped me with my answers. They want answers structured like this: situation, your action, the outcome. I also forgot my info sheet and reference sheet. They were super sweet and friendly though. I calmed down fast, even told them I was nervous, and they were really understanding. After the first question, I felt much better. Overall, a good interview experience.
- Can you describe a time you had an issue with a team member?
- Walk me through how you applied your skills to resolve a challenge.
- What's the accomplishment on your resume that you're most proud of, and why?
Engineering Co-op
They send you a teams link for the interview (it starts exactly at the posted time so join early to make sure everything is set up correctly), and I was interviewed by two engineering managers. I got asked 5 behavioural and 2 technical questions. Behaviourals were all answered using the STAR method (its what they are looking for), and the technicals are random based on the department they want you to work in. Sometimes you can guess what the questions are before hand if you search the managers up and look at what departments they work under.
- What do you know about OPG and why are you interested in working here?
Developer
It was all behavioral and questions about OPG. Make sure you do a lot of research, like history, future, and current. They even asked me about safety equipment, even though I am working in an office, so know your PPE. The interviews were nice. They asked a total of 11 questions with 5 minutes for each.
- Can you explain what OPG regulators are?
- What do you know about OPG's history, current state, and future plans?
- Regarding PPE, what safety equipment should one be aware of even in an office setting?
