I went to an on-site career fair, which they sometimes advertise on the "Omnicare Careers" Facebook page. They usually want you to apply online first, but I wanted to check out the jobs. When they asked what I was interviewing for, I said I was interested in Compliance because it pays more and is a call center job, but since I wanted part-time, I said I'd consider anything. First, I chatted with a recruiter for about 15 minutes about my background, interest, and availability. Then I met a manager for 20-30 minutes who asked more detailed questions about my background and told me about the different pharmacy roles. She was really nice and shared her own background and why she liked working there. After that, I talked to someone from the call center who asked similar questions about why I wanted the job and my experience. She showed me the call center and said they'd decide in a few weeks. I emailed the manager a thank you, and she said they'd be in touch soon. After waiting 2-3 weeks without hearing back, I emailed again and found out they hadn't contacted me because I hadn't applied online. They also said they only had 'back end' picking technician roles available, which pay less, and didn't explain why the Compliance job was still posted. I applied online for the Picking Technician role and they offered it to me. If I hadn't followed up, I wouldn't have heard from them.

I applied online and after 4 days they called me for a phone interview. It went well so they scheduled me for a job interview, which they said would involve two exams to study for. I had 4 days to prepare and had to learn the top 200 drugs (brand to generic, indications) and sig codes and conversions. I took the exams and did great, then moved on to the interview. I interviewed with HR, which went really well, then with someone from the department who told me more about the job and asked me questions. After that, I met with a technician who showed me what the job would entail. The interview went super well, the people were great, and I liked the environment. Two days later, I got an offer and accepted it. I'm leaving a retail pharmacy job making $15/hr and they offered more. I'm excited about having lunch breaks, an office setting, better pay, and lots of overtime, which is great for supporting my family, especially for holidays.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • The exams were timed and high-pressure, but if you have 5-10 years of pharmacy experience you should do well, though you still need to review the provided materials, especially the top 200 drugs list!

Behavioral Other

The interview process involved a few phone calls that felt a bit tense, making me less optimistic about the transfer. Despite that, the interviewer was pleasant and seemed genuinely interested in my responses. In the main interview, the interviewer dominated the conversation, often speaking over me when I tried to answer. If he didn't get the response he was looking for, he'd just repeat himself instead of asking for clarification. The interviewer also had some distracting mannerisms like puffing out his chest, adjusting his pants, and fiddling with his collar in a way that seemed awkward. The office itself was neat and well-maintained, and the other staff members were welcoming and friendly. The interview ran significantly longer than the time that was initially estimated.
