First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Ollie.
Art Assistant
The interview process was well-organized and conducted online. It was a calm and respectful conversation. The recruiter introduced the company, explained the role, and asked me to talk about my experience and portfolio. However, the feedback took longer than expected, and in the end, I was told the position had been canceled, which was frustrating due to the lack of predictability in the process.
- Can you describe your creative process?
Growth Marketing Manager
The interview process had five rounds. It began with an HR screening, followed by a 30-minute introductory call with the hiring manager. Then, there were two back-to-back 30-minute interviews with Directors or Leads from the Marketing team, which were a bit more formal and included technical/situational questions. After that, I received a dataset of old marketing logs and was tasked with creating a presentation and recommendation. The final step was a 30-minute introductory meeting with the CEO.
- How has your previous experience prepared you for this specific position?
Designer
The process kicked off with a recruiter chat covering background, personality fit, salary range, and benefits, plus a process overview. Then, I chatted with the hiring manager about my creative thinking and experience, but no portfolio review. After that, I met two team members for varied chats – one was a formal interview, the other more laid-back. Next, I got a project with a flexible deadline for presentation. It wasn't overly complex but took time. I presented it about a week later to the whole team. I thought that was it, but then unexpectedly, I had to meet with the CMO ASAP for a thorough interview on my personality, ambitions, and creative thinking. It went well, and I was contacted shortly after for an offer call.
- Besides design, what's your professional superpower?
- What would you say is your superpower in design?
Director of Food Safety and Quality Assurance
So first, I had a chat with a recruiter from inside the company. They wanted to check out my background and see if I'd fit in with the team. Then, I talked to the hiring manager. They dug into more specific stuff and gave me some real-world problems to think about. After that, I met with some of my potential colleagues, people at my level, and they asked me about how I've handled situations in the past. The last part was a take-home task where I had to put together a presentation outlining a plan to fix a particular food safety issue.
