The interview process was quite thorough, more so than what you usually find with CDL employers. The background check can be a bit of a hassle due to the level of detail they require. However, they do provide a top-notch service in the market, which is why they can't hire just anyone who applies.

The job involves a significant amount of responsibility, but it's challenging because management pushes you hard while not paying enough. This seems common in retail, so Sobeys isn't the absolute worst. You might get lucky with nice coworkers or unlucky with difficult ones. The biggest issue for me, though, is the unpredictable work schedules. As a part-time employee, you're rarely guaranteed hours, and even full-time staff sometimes have their hours cut.

I talked to the manager on the phone first. Then I had an in-person interview with the Manager, Director, and a VP, meeting each of them separately. They showed me around the facility. It was interesting because each of the three positions described the job a bit differently, with travel ranging from 10% to 50% and salary from 60k to 80k. There wasn't really a clear reason given for needing to be in the office, and no remote or hybrid option was available. The direct manager for the role was based in a different state, and the position covered about a third of the US.

The interview process was thorough, a bit disorganized though. I was flown down to Raleigh to spend time with various team members, but my flight was never reimbursed nor my Ubers or hotel (for when my flight home got cancelled). The worst aspect was the hiring manager “forgetting” to tell me I did not get the job. It shouldn’t cost $600 to go to an interview. Very disorganized, and I found a much higher paying job doing this exact same type of work I was interviewing for at ODM.
