First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Old Chicago.

After I sent in my application online, I reached out to the location's management team right away. I called and asked to talk to the general manager, and they asked for my name and the job I was applying for. After we talked about my options, the manager invited me to come in for an in-person interview the next week. I went in when it was pretty quiet during the day. We sat down in one of the dining booths. I talked with the general manager, who asked me a bunch of questions about my life, previous jobs, and my reasons for wanting to work at Old Chicago. After our chat, the manager said he liked the interview but wanted me to meet with the service manager too. A few days later, I met the service manager and got hired right then and there. I originally applied to be a host because I didn't have serving experience, but they offered me a server position if I was interested.

I had to apply online first, and then they called me in for an interview. The first interview was with the bar manager, who just asked me basic stuff like my availability, why I wanted to work at Old Chicago, and if I had any restaurant experience. Then they told me to come back in a few days for another interview, this time with the general manager. In the second interview, they asked me more detailed questions about my past work experiences and how I'd handle tough situations or if I'd ever gone the extra mile for a customer. I got hired right then and there.
- Can you share an instance of dealing with a challenging patron or scenario and your solution?
- Could you describe a time you went the extra mile for a guest?

When I applied, it was when we were opening a new store, so I had the basic interview and then orientation. If you get the chance to start at a new location, you're gonna get the best training possible for a new restaurant employee. You'll do classrooms, learn all about the glassware, the rewards programs, you get to learn about the menu items by trying them yourself, and you'll get to learn about and taste beer (if you're 21+), because we are the craft beer authority and we really know our craft beers!
- Can you tell me about your biggest weakness?
- What would you say is your greatest strength?
