After I sent in my application online, I reached out to the location's management team right away. I called and asked to talk to the general manager, and they asked for my name and the job I was applying for. After we talked about my options, the manager invited me to come in for an in-person interview the next week. I went in when it was pretty quiet during the day. We sat down in one of the dining booths. I talked with the general manager, who asked me a bunch of questions about my life, previous jobs, and my reasons for wanting to work at Old Chicago. After our chat, the manager said he liked the interview but wanted me to meet with the service manager too. A few days later, I met the service manager and got hired right then and there. I originally applied to be a host because I didn't have serving experience, but they offered me a server position if I was interested.
- What's your motivation for seeking employment at Old Chicago?
Host
My interview was really fast and simple. I went in and the host took me to a quiet spot in the back to wait for a manager. They were nice and made sure I didn't feel nervous. They asked a few questions, and then it was over. I got a call to come back for a second interview with the General Manager. It was the same process, and he hired me. I worked there for almost 2 years and liked the people I worked with, but it's the restaurant business.
- What makes you want to be a host here?
- Could you tell me about your work ethic?
- What would make you a better fit for this role than someone else applying?

When I applied, it was when we were opening a new store, so I had the basic interview and then orientation. If you get the chance to start at a new location, you're gonna get the best training possible for a new restaurant employee. You'll do classrooms, learn all about the glassware, the rewards programs, you get to learn about the menu items by trying them yourself, and you'll get to learn about and taste beer (if you're 21+), because we are the craft beer authority and we really know our craft beers!
- Can you tell me about your biggest weakness?
- What would you say is your greatest strength?
Hostess
I applied online and got a call the next day to set up an interview for the following day. It was super short, only about 5 minutes. Then, I had a second interview a couple of days later, which was maybe 10 minutes. After that, the manager wanted to meet with me a few days after that. He mentioned they wanted to schedule an orientation and would call me with the details. I got a call later that day offering me the job, and orientation would be in a few days!
- Regarding our motto 'Every customer, every time', what are your thoughts on its meaning?
