Data Science Intern
So I applied through Linkedin after seeing a Google form posted by the director of data science at Ola for hiring interns. The process included a test and then three interview rounds. The first two were technical, and the last one was an HR round.
- Could you tell me about some basic data science concepts?
- There was one coding question asked.
- And two data science questions were asked.
Data Scientist
Only appeared for the first round. The hiring process seems broken. A Bachelor's degree holder with 5 years of experience is interviewing Master's and PhD candidates for two levels below them, expecting 8-10 years of experience. The salary might be high because no one wants to join. The interviewer couldn't justify joining the team. The culture is bad; it's a 6-day work week, and they're forcing people to come to the office during COVID. The Glassdoor rating is already poor, and it felt like the team has the same toxic culture.
- Tell me about ANOVA.
- Can you solve a sliding window LeetCode problem?
Data Scientist
Resume screening was the first step. Candidates who passed this moved on to a coding assessment that included basic machine learning problems and competitive programming. Those who cleared the coding test then proceeded to a technical interview. This interview focused heavily on past internships and projects, with some questions about probability and coding.
- What are some evaluation metrics for a Photo OCR task?
- Can you explain why batch normalization reduces training time?
- Find the point of inflection in an almost sorted array.
