I had an interview with HR over video call. The connection was bad a few times, and then it cut out completely from her end, so we continued over the phone. I mostly remember her asking if I had questions, which she did repeatedly. When I did ask questions, she couldn't answer them or dismissed them. It was strange because she kept asking about my experience in areas not mentioned in the job description, and took the conversation beyond the scope of the role I applied for. I wasn't sure if we were discussing the same position. The whole meeting felt unprepared, unstructured, and not collaborative – basically unprofessional. I didn't ask about company culture because her behavior already showed me enough. Plus, online reviews from current and former employees are all over the place and are a better indicator of the culture than whatever HR might say.

Behavioral Technical

The interview format was unusual, focusing heavily on one of my past projects without any technical questions or case studies. It felt like providing free consultation. Regarding work-life balance, when I asked about working hours and overtime, they only mentioned standard hours (09:30-19:00) but didn't address overtime. The hiring manager then surprisingly said, 'I am surprised that as an employee of XXX, you actually care about work-life balance.' This felt insensitive. I advise candidates to be cautious when they ask about sensitive technical aspects of your projects and to protect your interests. The company seems to have a poor approach to work-life balance, likely influenced by the hiring manager's five-plus years there. Consider this if work-life balance is important to you.
