Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Ogilvy.
Strategist
Applied on LinkedIn, HR reached out the next day and we set up an online call with the hiring manager for the following week. It got rescheduled. After that chat, I was invited to meet the team and do a case study presentation for the managers. Then, I was ghosted and my follow-ups went unanswered. Puzzled by how this recruitment process ended.
- Can you share your experience working with (x)?
Strategist
It was a fast process with plenty of communication and updates throughout. Every interview was professional and informative. The recruiter prepped me beforehand about who I'd be speaking with. It was a great experience overall, though I thought some interviewers could have provided more in-depth information instead of keeping it very high-level.
- Can you describe your past experience?
- How do you approach problem-solving?
- What strategies do you employ in your work?
Strategy Director
Applied directly on the website and got contacted for an initial chat with the recruiter a few weeks later, lasted about 30min. Then had three 1-hour interviews with two senior heads of department. Communication was excellent, got updated regularly by the recruiter who was very kind and attentive. The interviews felt somewhat formal and rigorous. Standard questions were asked about my experience and skills, and they gave a very good picture of the role and organisation. The interviews focused on understanding my expertise in Strategy, including my experience across the full breadth of strategy and planning capabilities (brand, creative, digital), my understanding of strategic models and frameworks, and specific projects that illustrated this. I also had to share a few case studies. Overall, it was a very positive experience and I was impressed by their attitude and rigor. I was offered the role but decided not to accept it.
- Tell me about your most recent experience.
- What's your experience like in brand, creative, digital strategy, and can you share examples of campaigns or other work where you led this?
- What do you think are the biggest challenges and opportunities in our industry over the next few years and what strategic capabilities should we be investing in to be able to support our brands partners through them?
