The interview was a video recording through HireVue. After that, I had to play two games: one for pattern recognition and another for simple math. The whole assessment was pretty straightforward. You get two chances for each interview question. For the second try, you have all the time you need to practice and get ready before recording one last time.
- Of all the products and services you know, which is your favorite, and how would you persuade a customer to buy it?
- Can you share an instance where you took the initiative to acquire new knowledge, and describe how you accomplished that?
- Could you recount a situation where you encountered an obstacle at work, and explain your approach to managing it?

The Officeworks interview journey was pretty straightforward, checking for both my tech skills and how I deal with customers. It kicked off with sending in my application online, then a quick phone chat where they asked about my schedule, if I could legally work there, and just generally if I was keen on the job. After that, I met the store manager in person. We talked about situations involving customer help, working with others, and sorting out technical problems. They also wanted to know how I'd figure out usual tech issues customers might have in the store. The whole thing felt pretty relaxed and moved fast, and it was cool they cared about me being flexible and a good communicator, not just about the tech stuff.
- What would you do if a customer is upset because of a tech problem you can't immediately fix?

The interview was okay, but the rest of the process was bad and a bit insulting. They make you play games, one was fine but the math game wasn't. Some of the math questions were tough, like 42x7, and you only had about 5 seconds to answer. I put in a lot of effort for this job, even doing my pre-interview questions online by myself in a car while on holiday. I can see why they have such poor customer service in their stores because they can't even select good workers. I have two qualifications in business finance and one in workplace communication and health and safety. But three weeks later, I was told they were going with other candidates. It took them three weeks to tell me I didn't get the job. Overall, the entire process is terrible and frankly offensive. I'm a year 12 high school student. Someone else in my class got hired at a store where her mum works, and seeing her, who isn't academically as strong as others, I thought I'd surely get the job, but no. So, be careful!
- Could you tell me what you know about Officeworks?
