Sales Assistant
The recruitment process for this casual role at Officeworks involved a third-party AI tool called HireVue. It required my consent for them to use my name, likeness, and voice. I found this totally unacceptable for a casual retail position, and frankly, for any job.
- Do you agree to the terms and conditions?
Sales Assistant
It was a group interview with 8 people. We were each given a product and had to try and sell it. Then, we were given a photo of a customer doing something and had to describe what they were doing and how we would approach them. After that, we were given a list and had to rank tasks from 1 (most important) to 9 (least important). For example, tasks included things like 'there's a leak on the floor' and 'the furniture is really dusty'.
- Please introduce yourselves to the group.
- What animal would you be and what is the reason for your choice?
Sales Assistant
Early candidates for the Christmas Casual/Sales Assistant role met at the back of the store and chatted before the group interview. Our group of 8 candidates was taken to the back warehouse where about 5 assessors introduced themselves and explained the group interview format. Then, we did the exercises. Afterward, 5 out of the 8 candidates were asked to stay because the assessor wanted to 'clarify some information with them' – I think they might have had 1-on-1 interviews. Two weeks later, I got an email saying my application was unsuccessful.
- I've folded this paper into a cone, now you fold it and use the markers to create a name stand for yourself.
- Tell us about yourself, your background in retail, and one interesting fact.
- Here's a photo of a customer; how would you approach and interact with them?
