Office Depot Specialist Interview Questions
& Process

I first talked to the Assistant Manager, who was also the most tech-savvy person there. We started with general questions about me and why I wanted the job, then moved onto some personality and professional service questions to see if I could do the job. We ended up talking longer than planned because we got into a discussion about technology. After that, he asked me a few questions to confirm my tech knowledge. Then, I had to pick an item in his office and try to sell it to him. The last question was the classic, "Why do you think you'll be a good fit for Office Depot?" He told me right then that he'd recommend me to the GM and that a second interview would be scheduled soon. A few days later, I went for the second interview and was surprised the GM was my age, but he was very sharp and professional. He asked many of the same questions from the first interview, likely to get his own read on me and to confirm what his Assistant said. He seemed to have notes from the first interview and was checking if my answers were consistent. It was pretty standard and similar to the first interview. He told me about the company, how quickly he moved up, and that they promote deserving employees, so I'd likely advance if I worked hard. He also mentioned they need more year-round staff, not just summer help. At the end, he asked about me again and wanted to know if I was looking for a long-term job or just something temporary. I got the job on the spot and was offered a higher pay rate than initially discussed. I did have to take a drug test.

The interview started after speaking with the Store Manager. It was followed by one interview where I was asked about a criminal record. Since I had prior experience with the company, I didn't think this question was out of place. It was a simple question that required a quick check. I had nothing to hide. After the interview, I waited a week for a response about the job offer. Since I was hired after that week, it showed my word was my bond.

It was a bit tough because of the questions. I first talked to the store manager, and then a department manager. The store manager asked the harder questions, but the department manager was really chill and that helped me chill too. The store manager apparently hires anyone who can sell themselves even somewhat well.
