Office Depot Software Engineer Interview Questions

First, an HR review, then a Hiring Manager interview. If you pass that, you'll move on to four separate one-hour interviews, which could be with a panel or individually. They'll ask situational questions based on Office Depot's 5C principles and technical questions about your past work or this role.

Had a quick chat with the recruiter. Then there was an online assessment with 3 questions. After that, it was 4 virtual interviews, which were easy/medium. One was an Object Oriented Design (OOD) question where I felt I did well; the interviewer was really laid back and felt like a senior person guiding me. Another was a LeetCode (LC) problem, I gave an O(n) optimized solution immediately, but the interviewer implied it could be better, and at the end, it turned out his 'optimized' version was essentially the same as mine, just with slightly prettier code. The system design interview was tough, with the interviewer giving no guidance and introducing new requirements mid-way, which should have been clarified upfront. The last interview had a vague coding question, followed by grilling on probability and threading concepts. I felt that while the interviewers had deep experience, especially one with a decade at the company, I couldn't always keep up with their thought process. Out of the 4 interviewers (or 8 if you count the shadows), only one from the OOD session seemed like someone I'd want to work with. The others seemed focused on nitpicking, possibly due to their long tenure. During the last two interviews, I noticed the interviewer and their shadow seemed to be messaging and giggling about me.

I had a phone call with recruiters first, then a HackerRank coding assessment that was easy, followed by 2 LeetCode questions. After that, there was a loop interview with 4 interviewers. 3 of them focused on coding and my current experience, and 1 was a system design question. Since my background is in e-commerce, they asked me to design a recommendation system.
