First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Office Depot.
Customer Service Specialist
We had one interview, then an in-store survey. It was a standard interview where they mainly wanted to see my communication skills and if I could sell different products and services. They also wanted to know if I was willing to learn and could adapt to various sales scenarios.
- There were no particularly difficult questions asked.
Customer Service Associate
I went into the store first to check out the vibe and the people. I talked to a manager and we got along really well. I noticed it was an all-female management team, which I thought was great. I submitted my application and got a call back pretty quickly. We scheduled an interview, and after that, they set up another appointment for a skills and personality test. It was like 100 questions about different retail situations and how you'd handle them. You need to pass this test to move forward. I got another call soon after. Then I did a couple of days of cashier training and was ready to go on the floor. Just be ready to help out wherever needed.
- What makes you want to work here?
- How would you be a good fit for this role?
Customer Service Specialist
I submitted a paper application and was informed I'd need to complete a computer-based assessment at the store. I got a call for an interview about 2-3 days later. Following the initial interview, I was scheduled for a second interview with the store manager. Both interviews were quite similar and straightforward. I suspect they conduct two interviews to allow the store manager to make the final decision and filter out unsuitable candidates. The entire process took me about a week and a half. After that, you'll have to undergo a drug test, which takes a few more days for results. I'm not sure about other stores, but mine tends to be slow in responding, so patience is key.
- What's an instance where you provided excellent customer service?
- Can you share an example demonstrating good management and another showing poor management skills?
