First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Offensive Security.
Customer Success Manager
The interview process was underwhelming. The recruiter seemed to assume that offering perks like a MacBook Pro would be enough to impress, rather than focusing on the substance of the role or the company’s strategic vision. The interview was postponed multiple times, which raised concerns about their internal coordination. Things progressed smoothly until I disclosed my current CTC, which appeared to surprise the interviewer. That moment noticeably shifted the tone of the conversation, suggesting a disconnect between their expectations and market realities.
- Can you tell me about your current role and what your day-to-day responsibilities involve?
Management
The interview process started with a 1-hour HR talent call, followed by two 30-minute interviews with coworkers, and a final 30-minute interview with the hiring manager/director and another with the CEO. The initial phone screen with the talent manager was insightful about the role. The coworker interviews were conversational, and raised some concerns about the company's reputation, but the people were great. The hiring manager interview was unusual, focusing heavily on resume specifics while he spoke for most of the time; it felt short at 30 minutes and the pay offered was significantly lower than other roles.
- Could you elaborate on XXXX as mentioned in your resume?
Software Engineer
I had an initial chat with HR that went fine, then I moved on to interview with the hiring managers. They asked mostly behavioral questions, like 'what would you do in this situation?' I answered them genuinely, but it was decided during that meeting that I wasn't the right fit, even though I never got to the technical interview part.
- How would you handle a disagreement with a colleague?
- Can you explain technical concepts to people who aren't technical?
- What's your preferred management style?
Cybersecurity Content Writer
I talked with a recruiter first. Then I was given an 8-page assignment that was really unstructured for cyber content creation. I didn't get any feedback or hear about a next round. I asked the recruiter if the team could provide any feedback, but they totally ignored me and just said they were moving on with other candidates. This whole experience makes me not want to use the platform again, it was a total waste of my time. If you expect talented people to do unpaid work, you should at least give them real feedback, not just an automated rejection. HTB seems like a better work environment, and it feels like people in the industry are moving away from Offsec.
- Can you describe your background and experience?
- Please complete the take-home assignment focusing on unstructured cyber content creation.
