The interview process was all over the place. It seemed like the interviewer and hiring manager weren't on the same page because they gave me conflicting timelines for an assessment. They said they wanted another interview, but they never set it up and just ghosted me, which was pretty unprofessional.

The interview felt pretty laid-back and conversational. They hit me with some policy questions, like about the Children First Act and HIQA. Then there were some scenario-based questions. I also got asked about trauma-informed approaches and how to de-escalate situations.

I had a phone interview, then got an email asking me to answer some questions about how I'd fit into their company culture based on a PDF they sent. After that, I was asked for a second interview. I could choose between Skype or in-person, so I went to NYC. There, a younger guy interviewed me about my management skills. Then a girl interviewed me and asked similar questions. They didn't ask much about my writing or personal background. It seemed like a management role, focused on forming online student communities by pitching them ideas and hitting targets within the first month, which felt more like sales. I didn't get an offer, but it wasn't the right fit for me. When I asked about writing opportunities, they said I might be able to fit some in if I finished my other work on time, implying it's not a writing position.

It started with a phone call that was basically a vibe check and a chance for them to hype up the company. After that, there was a cultural fit questionnaire where you answer some personal questions. Then, I had an interview with two Assistant Managing Editors. The first one was kind of a dud, not much energy, so who knows why he was there. But the second one was way better, seemed genuinely interested in adding another AME to the team. This chat was all about my career ambitions and how they meshed with The Odyssey's vision. Next up was a meeting with the Editorial Director to dive into the nitty-gritty of the job and see how my abilities matched the position's needs. Aside from that first awkward interviewer, the rest of the interviews seemed to go okay, but I guess I wasn't the right fit in the end.
