Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Octopus.
Investment Analyst
The process was quick, took about 4 weeks total and involved 4 interviews. The team seemed nice and the interviews were mostly qualitative, with a few investment-focused questions that weren't too technical. I got an offer back in 2 weeks.
- Why are you interested in working at this company?
Portfolio Manager
The interview process was efficient and well-organized, involving six interviews spread across two days, including meetings with HR and team leaders. The company places a strong emphasis on culture, which was evident from the start. Everyone was welcoming and made me feel at ease. Although there were challenging questions, the impression was that they were more interested in my approach to them or my willingness to admit if I didn't know. It was my most pleasant interview experience. A case study is required but is quite manageable, and there were many competency-based questions to gauge cultural alignment. The HR team was particularly friendly and helpful.
- A big part of the hiring process focuses on your personality and background. Many personal questions were asked.
- Questions were asked about how you handle difficult situations.
- Questions were asked about how you deal with challenges.
Investment Manager
The process started with a recruiter reaching out, leading to a 45-minute chat about my career, background, and skills. Next, I had a 60-minute screening interview with HR at Octopus, which was quite relaxed and not too intense. The second interview was also 60 minutes, with the head of the team. He was pleasant, though sometimes seemed a bit distant. I got the impression they might be concerned about their rapid growth impacting company culture, but they seemed aware of it.
- Can you share a challenging experience and how you handled it?
- What were the high points and low points of your career?
- Tell me about a period of significant difficulty and what insights you gained from it.
