Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Oakley.
Product Development Engineer
It was an on-site interview, and it seemed like they weren't really prepared, almost like they forgot they had an interview scheduled. They were more focused on whether I'd fit into the company culture than my actual skills. Honestly, the whole company felt unprepared.
- Tell me about your interests and what you like to do.
- Could you discuss a technical aspect related to a sunglasses hinge?
Product Development Engineer
The interview was at Oakley HQ in FootHill Ranch, CA. First I had a phone screen with HR, then technical interview with manager and Director of the product development engineering group. I was called for onsite interview immediately. It's the most casual interview that I have ever attended. The interview schedule was from 11.30-3.30 pm. It included one by one interview, starting with HR and then different manager from different groups. The interview was fairly straightforward with STAR based technique. What I observed or understood from the interview process is they don't look for technical competency of the candidate, but instead they look how the candidate fits with the Oakley values and culture. Although the pay was less as compared to my present job and location, I really wanted to work at Oakley, as I really liked the job profile and the people I interviewed with at Oakley. But eventually, they closed the position without hiring anyone due to budget cuts.
- Can you tell me about a time you scaled up a process?
- Do you have any quality-related questions?
Software Engineer
The interview process at Oakley is pretty cool. They require an onsite interview, and it's important to dress casually, otherwise, you'll be overdressed. The first round was a phone interview. The second round was an onsite whiteboard interview, which consisted of three 30-minute phases all on the same day. Then there was a background check.
- Tell me about your front-end basics.
- How do you handle stressful situations on a project based on your past experiences?
- Can you share instances from your previous work where you encountered and managed project stress?
