Sales and Customer Service Representative
I went in person for an interview with Ronan, the director. It was a very brief meeting, less than ten minutes, though I had to wait about half an hour. He explained the job involves face-to-face marketing and talked about the career path. They have a hierarchy with four levels: salesperson, team leader, project director, and top-level manager. The company has some big clients. I checked Glassdoor and found out it's basically door-to-door sales, which they didn't disclose initially. They mentioned the next step would be a full day shadowing to see what it's like, so I would have eventually learned the nature of the role. They present themselves well. I spoke with Rachel on the phone, and she was great, very helpful with emails. The company looks good, but it would have been better to know upfront it was door-to-door sales, especially since I'm a university graduate and overqualified. This role might be good for someone who just finished high school or needs a part-time job during uni, without experience or qualifications, and is outgoing. However, it's not a good fit for a recent grad, and they weren't clear about the job from the start.
- Can you handle rejection and not get too upset?
Marketing and Sales Graduate
Applied on seek and was contacted the next day for a phone interview. Was invited to a face to face interview the next day with the founder of the company who offered a fantastic position working with nine of the best known brands in Australia particularly in leading a "Business to business" marketing campaign. Was then invited for group interview and a field day and told to wear comfortable shoes. Field day consisted of selling raffle tickets to cashiers of small business, which was a lot more personal than "B2B" implied. Was offered a role without a base salary offering 28% commission on all tickets sold with the promise of promotion within a six month period given I was determined to succeed.
- What does success mean to you?
- What sales techniques and strategies have you learned today?
- What are your career success goals?
Sales Representative
It started with a quick phone interview, then a one-on-one the next day. That was the second stage. I found out later there are three stages in total. I didn't go for the third stage because it seemed like a setup. The face-to-face interview was pretty basic, mostly just filling out forms and answering some personality questions. I did some digging and found out the third stage is a full day field trip doing door-to-door sales. I had no clue it was a door-to-door job; I thought it was call centre sales and never got told what the actual role involved throughout the whole process.
- Can you mention someone you consider a good role model?
Marketing Spokesperson
You have 3 stages of interview. First is a quick meet with the Hiring Manager or Connor, just to put a face to the name and talk about your past experience, what you're seeking in a new job, and what opportunities are available. 2nd stage is spending the day with a team member to see if you're a good fit and if you're up for this kind of role, cuz it's not for everyone.
- What are your top 3 strengths that you can bring to the company?
