Coding Technical

The interview process started with a manager round as the first stage, followed by a coding round as the second. There were three additional rounds after clearing those. I wasn’t able to get past the coding round. The problem itself would feel easy if you had seen it before, but it was classified as a hard-level LeetCode problem — essentially, merging multiple sorted streams using a heap (a variation of merge sort)

Technical Coding

I applied online and got an invite a few days later. First, I spoke with the team manager. It was a good chat, he was nice and polite. He asked me some tech questions related to the daily tasks. After that, I was given a code challenge to do at home, supposed to take about an hour, but no deadline was set. I submitted the link to my GitHub with the code. A few days later, I got a generic rejection email with no useful feedback.

Behavioral Technical Coding

The interview process was really nice and composed of four parts. First, a standard HR interview to discuss my background, learn about the posting, and talk initial salary figures. Next, an interview with the hiring manager to discuss more intricate details about myself. This part is also pretty standard but the hiring manager asked some really cool questions, some light technical but also very future-oriented questions discussing goals and career path, as well as questions geared to get an understanding of what type of developer and person I am. The next step was a take home project. The final step was a 3 part interview. The first part is with a higher up/director talking about company direction, my outlook on my career and what I'm looking to get at Nylas, a "culture" interview per say. The second interview is with the hiring manager again having a more flushed out discussion regarding day-to-day operations. The final one was a technical interview with two other senior members of the team which was a Coderpad exercise to process data spread across data sources.
