First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at NYC Comptroller.
Administrative Manager
After passing a city exam for your title, the interview process is pretty simple. There's just one interview round with straightforward questions. The staff and management are friendly and available to help with any questions you might have.
- Can you describe your ability to manage a high volume of calls and emails, and how you use Microsoft Office products?
- What's your experience with handling a lot of calls and emails, and using Microsoft Office?
Auditor
I was interviewed by two supervisors. They asked what I knew about the company and other general questions about my experience and accomplishments. They looked at my resume and asked questions. I also had time to ask some of my questions before they left the room for me to complete the writing assessment. After that was finished, the Director and another person interviewed me and that was it.
- What do you know about our company?
- Could you tell us about your accomplishments?
- Can you describe your current or previous job responsibilities?
Intern
So, basically, I had this one interview, and they hit me with the standard questions about managing projects, what I'm good at, what I'm not so good at, and just generally about stuff I've done before. After that, maybe a week or two after chatting with my future boss, they gave me the offer.
- Can you share an instance where you managed a challenging project previously?
- What are your strengths?
- What are your weaknesses?
Intern
I heard back about a month before the interviews. The interviews went alright, but I was asked to follow up in two months. I followed up twice but never got a response.
- Can you tell me about yourself in relation to our company's work?
- What news sources do you follow?
